Arthur Christian Mathias and Irma Emma Anna (Weiberg) Mathias

Arthur Christian Mathias was born on July 8th 1887 to Christian Mathias and Mary (Fetz) Mathias.

His father died on May 29th 1899. In the 1910 census he was living with his mother and was an engineer a brewery.
On January 16th 1917 he married Irma Emma Anna Weiberg. She was born on Juoly 9th 1892 in Evansville to Frederick Weiberg and Katharine (Blaul) Weiburg.

On October 2nd 1918 they had a daughter named Kathryn Mary Mathias.

In the 1920 census they were living in Evansville Ward 6, Vanderburgh County, Indiana. The household consisted of Arthur (32), Irma (27), and Katherine (1). Arthur was a city mechanician, a person trained in the design or production of machinery.

On May 24th 1920 they had twins Albert Christian Mathias and Arthur Frederick Mathias. On September 17th 1922 they had a daughter named Virginia Lee Mathias.

In the 1930 census they were living in Lake Wales, Polk County, Florida. The household consisted of Arthur (42), Irma (37), Catharine (11), Arthur (9), Albert (9), and Virginia Lee (7). Arthur was a superintendent at citrus groves.

Sadly on May 5th 1969, Irma Emma Anna (Weiberg) Mathias died. She was 76 years old.

Arthur Christian Mathias died on December 30th 1978. He was 91 years old.

Albert Charles Mathias, Mary Elizabeth (Ledbetter) Mathias, and Katherine (McNulty) Mathias

Albert Charles Mathias was born in August of 1880 to Christian Mathias and Mary (Fetz) Mathias.

His father died on May 29th 1899. In the 1900 census he was living with his mother and was a clerk.

On August 11th 1902 he married Mary Elizabeth Ledbetter. She was born on February 28th 1877.

In the 1910 census they were living in St. Louis Ward 16, Saint Louis City, Missouri. The hold consisted of Albert (28), Mary (30), their adopted daughter, Edna (9), a boarder named Harry New (25). Albert was a clerk at a Railroad.

Sadly on April 4th 1917, Mary Elizabeth (Ledbetter) Mathias died. She was 40 years old.

Later that year on October 10th Albert married Katherine McNulty. She was born in about 1887 to Patrick McNulty and Mary (Rogers) McNulty.

In the 1920 census they were living in Indianapolis Ward 4, Marion County, Indiana. The household consisted of Albert (38), Katherine (33), and Edna (19). Albert was a manager at an oil company. Edna was a telephone operator.
On October 3rd 1924 they had a son named Albert Charles Mathias.

In the 1930 census they were living in Indianapolis, Marion County, Indiana. The household consisted of Albert (48), Katherine (43), and Albert (6).Albert was a supervisor for an employment industry.

In the 1940 census they were living in Warren, Marion County, Indiana. The household consisted of Albert (58), Katharine (52), Albert (16), Katharine’s mother, Mary McNulty (83), and Albert’s mother, Mary Mathias (79). Albert was a clerk at a wholesale oil company. Katharine was a manager at Journalist Company.

Sadly on March 20th 1941, Albert Charles Mathias died. He was 60 years old.

His son Albert Charles Mathias died in Yugoslavia. He was shot down on March 6th 1944. He parachuted out of his fighter and his group circled until he landed. He waved to the circling fighter but they had to leave because they were low on fuel. Although it was written that our armed forces were in the area within 24 hours, Albert’s body was never found. It was suspected that guerilla forces captured and killed them. He received the DFC and Purple Heart posthumously. He was declared dead two years old on March 6th 1946.

Katherine died in 1960.

Christian Mathias and Maria “Mary” (Fetz) Mathias

Maria “Mary” Fetz was born on July 4th 1862 in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana. She was baptized on August 10th 1862 at Holy Trinity in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana.

In the 1880 census she was a servant for Herman Belker, who worked in the Billiard room. She happened to be right next door to her future employer and later husband, Christian Mathias.

She married Christian on March 11th 1881. He was 57 years old and she was 18.

Christian Mathias was born on April 29th 1823 in Prussia. He was married four times before his marriage to Mary. He also had many children before Mary and he got married. His profession was a music teacher.
They soon had two sons, Albert Charles and Arthur Christian.

Sadly it was on May 29th 1899 that Christian Mathias died. He was taking a walk with his daughter, Amelia Schroeder, and her children when seized with a stroke of paralysis and fell down to the pavement. It was written that his daughter gathered his head in her arms as he died. He was 76 years old; this made Mary a widow at the age of 37.

In the 1900 census Mary was living in Pigeon, Vanderburgh County, Indiana. The household consisted of Mary (37), her stepson, George (26), his wife Mary (23), and Mary and Christian’s two sons together, Albert (18) and Arthur (12). George was a painter and Albert was a clerk.

In the 1910 census she was living in Evansville Ward 6, Vanderburgh County, Indiana. The family only consisted of Mary (47) and Arthur (22). Arthur was an engineer at a Brewery.

In the 1920 census she was living Evansville Ward 5, Vanderburgh County, Indiana. The household only consisted of Mary (58). Her occupation was now a laundress, meaning she washed and ironed clothes.

In the 1930 census she was living in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana. She had now become a House Keeper for William Schroeder, a clerk at Dry Goods Store. Mary was 68 years old.

Mary is written on the 1940 census twice. On April 22nd 1940 she was living in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana. She was still living in the home of William Schroeder. She was now just listed as a lodger.

In May 28th 1940, she was living in Warren, Marion County, Indiana with her son Albert. The household consisted of Albert (58), Katharine (52), Albert (16), Mary McNulty (83), and Mary Mathias (79). The other Mary listed is Albert’s wife, Katherine’s mother.

Her son Albert died on March 20th 1941, he was 60 years old. She sadly even outlived her grandson Albert on October 2nd 1944, he was 19 years old.

On March 23rd 1949 in Haines City, Polk County, Florida, Mary (Fetz) Mathias died. She was 86 years old. Both Christian and she are buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana.
